@The MAFF DNA Bank was established in 1994 as part of the MAFF (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan) Genebank in NIAR (National Institute of Agrobiological Resources). The DNA Bank is currently distributing DNA and also providing a variety of services to the scientific community as described below. All are welcome to request DNA and also to use our information retrieval service.

DNA distribution
@We distribute cDNAs, RFLP markers and YAC clones obtained in the Rice and Animal Genome Projects, sequences or other details of which have already been published in scientific journals or have been made available via the Internet. These two projects have been financially supported by funds from MAFF. We plan to distribute DNA from other species in the future.
@DNAs available for distribution for research purposes only are shown below. Please inquire to the address shown below. The request form can be obtained by contacting us directly or by accessing our home page. Please contact us if you have any questions at the address shown below.
| (1). Rice | ||
| cDNA clones | ca. 19,800 clones (1 clone/vial; @4,000) | |
| RFLP markers | ca. 1,200 clones (96 clones/microplate; @8,400) | |
| YAC library | ca. 7,000 clones (1,536 clones/nylon membrane; @16,300) | |
| (2). Pig | ||
| cDNA clones | ca. 150 clones (1 clone/vial;@4,000) | |
@Descriptions of each clone can be found in publications by these genome research groups, or in the
genome databases which can be accessed through our home page. Lists of DNAs for distribution and
brief descriptions of some of these DNA can also be found in our DNA Bank home page.
@As of the end of January, 1998, we received ca. 420 requests, ca. 290 of which came from overseas scientists.
@Major nucleotide and amino acid sequence databases as well as other databases related to molecular
biology have been mirrored on our server, and are available to scientists. Sequence homology searches
can be performed by sending the query sequence to our computer by e-mail. These and most of our other
services do not require user registration. All are welcome to use these services. Please inquire at the
address shown below.
The previously published data from the Rice Genome Project is included in the RiceDB database which can be accessed from our home
page. Mapping data from the pig genome can also be obtained through our home page.
